It is important that you follow these policies in order for the Madrasa to be able to run effectively for the benefit of all the children.

  1. To provide Islamic education, both basic and elementary to Muslim children, irrespective of their race, colour, ethnicity or geographical background.
  2. To Instill Islamic values and beliefs in the hearts of our children in the light of the Qur’an and Noble Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad.
  3. To help and develop our children in order for them to become responsible members of society.
  4. To ensure the Madrasa experience for our children is pleasant, kind, caring and enjoyable for them.
  5. To ensure all children are respected and treated fairly and equally.

All applications must be submitted early as possible; as all requests for admissions are dealt with according to the date we receive them. The minimum age for admission is 5 years for both boys and girls.

A meeting is arranged for all successful applicants, where all relevant paperwork is completed.

All children are first given a 1 week trial after which the Madrasa will decide whether to keep them on permanently or not.

If any child leaves the Madrasa, but later on wishes to come back, then he/she will have to re-apply. (Admission fee will apply and any other fees that are applicable at the time).

It is essential that your child attends Madrasa every single day and arrives to class on time.

If your child is absent for any valid reason, you must phone the office or send a letter with the child upon return. The register is taken every day and a monthly record of your child’s progress is kept; this can be viewed by parents upon request to find out how much their child is progressing.

Parents / guardians must fill in a holiday request form before they go abroad with the child; failure to do so will result in your child losing his/her place at the Madrasa.

Please do not take extended holidays during Madrasa time as this disrupts the learning of your child and thus, as a result, he/she will fall behind and will not reach the progress/learning targets.

(We strongly advise parents not to keep “football training” and other such “after school” activities during Madrasa hours. This seriously disrupts the education of the child. If any child is absent/late on several occasions, we will contact the parents to resolve the issue. However, if it still continues, then we will take necessary action that we deem appropriate.)

Boys: White Jubba/Salwar Kameez – The Salwar/trouser must be white (strictly no jeans allowed underneath) with a white hat. Cardigans/jumpers should be plain and free from figure faces/cartoon characters etc.

Haircut – All one level – this means from top, side and back of the hair must be of equal lengths. Any child resulting with two different hair lengths can be sent home until the matter is fully rectified. Hifz class students must allow their beard to grow and are not allowed to trim or cut their beard.

Girls: Plain, black loosely fitting Jilbab/Abaya (by loose we mean at least 3-5 inches away from the body on either side. Plain black head covering that conceals the hair, neck and chest).

No Jeans are allowed to be worn underneath their Jilbab/Abaya.

Hair – Girls hair must be level below the Hijab (no high humps etc) and no make-up or jewellery.

Children must be made to visit the toilet prior to coming to the Madrasa. Young children should also be taught how to relieve and clean themselves independently and to sit down and use the toilet. This saves others from undue hassle, waste of time and inconvenience.

Personal hygiene is very important at all times. Children should take a shower prior to coming to the Madrasa after sporting and other similar activities. Socks etc should be changed on a daily basis. Please send your child to the Madrasa/Masjid in clean attire in accordance with the command of Allah in the Qur’an.

If your child has any medical conditions or allergies then it is paramount to write this down clearly on the admission form and mention the symptoms etc to your child’s teacher; we will also keep a log of this in our office.

Children must be responsible or trained to look after their own belongings; they must come to Madrasa each day with the following items:

  1. Labelled Madrasa bag big enough to carry text and note books.
  2. Islamic Studies books (Qadah, A Child’s Gift etc), exercise books and pen (If both are required).

The below items may be confiscated and only returned to parents upon collection from the office.

  1. Mobile phones.
  2. Personal stereos, IPods and MP3 players.
  3. Knives, pen knives and any similar dangerous items. These items shall not be returned. (This will incur a fixed term suspension).
  4. Jewellery/expensive watches, make-up.
  5. No chewing gums/sweets/drinks or any other snacks.

Please note: Any other item may be confiscated if the teacher deems it unsafe/unsuitable for class.

Parent and / or guardians should wait outside the Masjid in an orderly manner which does not cause inconvenience to anyone. Please also be mindful not to cause congestion as this is a residential area. Also, if you are driving, please park your car at a safe place, come out of your car and wait outside the Masjid.

No cars should be parked in the middle of the road or at the junction (Mostyn Road) blocking the traffic.

Please remember that if you do not park your car safely, you are endangering the lives of little children by blocking their view to see clearly on both sides. Please park safely, drive slowly and cautiously when collecting your children.

If possible, please park away from the Masjid. Walking to the Masjid will help reduce the congestion of parking and traffic.

Your child’s admission maybe terminated if you are found to be constantly ignoring the Masjid’s request, or if you are causing disruption in anyway deemed inappropriate.

Please do not bring the Masjid into disrepute by your actions outside. Remember everyone is an Ambassador for our religionWe must not damage the reputation of the Masjid through our actions out in the community.

At Makki Masjid & Madrasa, we hope to inculcate Islamic manners and character in all the children. We expect parents to uphold and encourage their children to practice what they have learnt in Madrasa at home too; an aspect of our teaching includes the respect and obedience that you would expect from your children towards yourself; similarly, teachers also deserve the same respect and obedience.

We cannot stress enough the importance of punctual and regular offering of Salah. Parents must ensure that their children are offering their Salah at home on time or at the Masjid under the supervision of a responsible adult.

Discipline within the Madrasa is very important, and something we take very seriously. Well-behaved and disciplined children are crucial for the smooth running of Madrasa and society in general.

We do not have a corporal punishment policy.

Our disciplinary procedure after exhausting all efforts to motivate/encourage any child is as follows:

  1. Verbal warning given to the child (depending on offence committed)
  2. Detention may also be given (10 minutes after lesson or 1 hour on the weekend).
  3. Phone call or letter to parents if the issue is still not resolved.
  4. Child put on Report/Target Card.
  5. In addition to this, parents to be called in for a meeting with the Principal. At this stage we expect the issue to be resolved and the problem should no longer exist.
  6. If the concern is still not resolved, then the child may be suspended. On certain occasions a child may be expelled if is in the best interest of the Madrasa. The final decision will be made by the Madrasa disciplinary panel (Shu’ra).

Note: We may not always follow the above procedure, such as in the case of persistent and/or aggressive behaviour. In such we will suspend the pupil immediately. The management will then decide what steps to take.

If parents wish to speak to their child’s teacher or the Principal then they must phone in to make an appointment or come outside of Madrasa after teaching time, 7.45pm is usually an ideal time.

Homework/Sabaq is given to the children daily. This includes practicing reading, memorization, recognition and written work (for secondary years). Parents must ensure their children are completing this work every day at home. We expect children to complete/learn their Madrasa work for at least 20-30 minutes a day.

Parents will be responsible for any damage caused by their children to the property of the Masjid or Madrasa.

The Madrasa is not responsible for any lost items or lost fees. Any item that is handed into the office will be put into the lost property box.

We take into account your views/comments/complaints and suggestions very seriously. Regular interaction between parents and the Madrasa management/staff is very important, in order for our children to flourish and achieve the best within their capabilities and abilities.

Below are the steps necessary to take if you have any concerns:

  1. Make a telephone call during Madrasa time.
  2. Write a letter/email addressed to the Madrasa.
  3. If all the above fails then address the issues with the Principal.

It is our policy that no parent approaches any member of staff directly regarding any issue. If you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher then please make an appointment via the Madrasa office.

The Madrasa will not tolerate any kind of abuse whatsoever towards any member of staff/management! We will investigate all complaints to the best our ability, and will act fairly towards all parties.

All parent consultations throughout the course of the Madrasa year must be attended by parents. By attending the parent’s consultation it will help you gain a better insight and understanding on how your child is progressing and also give you an opportunity to meet the teachers that have been working with your child; further targets can be set to help your child progress.

Please check your child’s homework on a daily basis as this will be a form of communication between the teachers and parents. The Madrasa has a Communication Form (available on request from the office) which may be used to write any problems or concerns you may have; this will help build a good relationship with the Madrasa and give concerned parents a better understanding on how the Madrasa works.
